'Reach for the moon, even if you miss you will be among the stars.'

My name is Olivia. I've been a Montessori student for 10 years at HPMS! STEM is my favorite area of curriculum, and I also dance and play hockey and basketball. I would like to become a surgeon because I want to save lives and continue my studies in STEM. I'm also interested in prosthetics and special effects makeup.

Balloon Launch!

The balloon launch is a class project that I have been working on each year since 6th grade.  In a group of 7-15 students, we are tasked with launching a 15-foot balloon with many different sensors which collect data including altitude, temperature, photos, and GPS signals in the atmosphere. My role for the past two years has been leading the design team in creating the frame that holds the sensors on the balloon.

Promoting Peace // Montessori Model UN

As an MMUN delegate for the last 5 years, I researched and wrote position papers and supporting speeches on world issues from the perspective of my assigned country. This October, I traveled to Hangzhou, China to participate in an invite-only conference. My experience there included presenting my speech and debating my ideas within my working committees until we drafted together a final resolution.

In the Community

Community service is an integral part of becoming a global citizen. Below are a few photos of some of my community service work with Hope House, Peace Train and Next Step Broadway. In 6th grade, I also organized a Halloween costume drive for Turning Point Community Services, a homeless shelter for women and children.

In Action // Hockey, Basketball & Performing

I have played hockey since I was 8 years old, and I am currently part of the NJ Rockets 14U Tier 2. I have also been a part of the HPMS Basketball team for 5 years, both on the court and mentoring younger players. This year, I'm the only girl on the team!

When it comes to performing, I enjoy singing and dancing with Next Step Broadway (NSB), Hoboken Children's Theater's summer production of Footloose, and in last year's HPMS musical, Artie & the Knights of the Rad Table. For NSB, I am a Triple Threats dancer, which is an accelerated performance group, and I take classes in ballet, jazz, tap, and hip hop and perform in local events. For our school musical, I was the main female character and sang a solo.

This is me playing basketball at HPMS's first basketball game when I was in 6th grade.

Other activities of note:

Yearbook Club, Robotics Team & MathCounts Math Team participation

Experience with Python & Pro-Engineer software

Forensic Science Camp participation in 2016

At forensics camp, I was able to solve a simulated crime where pigs were poisoned to death, by dissecting the pigs, testing DNA and blood samples, and by using the provided clues about the suspects to find the criminal.
